Floods in Kaziranga National Park: 167 Camps Inundated, 38 Lives Lost in Assam

Kaziranga National Park in Assam is experiencing severe flooding due to continuous heavy rainfall. The water level has risen significantly, inundating 167 camps and leading to the evacuation of eight camps, according to DFO Arun Vignesh.

Vignesh mentioned that with the help of locals and police, vehicle speeds are being strictly regulated to prevent accidents, and so far, no vehicle hits have occurred. He praised the cooperation of the people and hoped it would continue.

The floods in Assam have claimed 38 lives, with three people drowning in the last 24 hours. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that two people died in Tinsukia district and one in Dhemaji district, bringing the total death toll to 38.

On Tuesday, the flood situation worsened, affecting over 11.34 lakh people in 28 districts, including Kamrup, Tamulpur, Chirang, Morigaon, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Udalguri, Nagaon, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Golaghat, Hojai, Darrang, Charaideo, Nalbari, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Karbi Anglong, Goalpara, Dhemaji, Majuli, Tinsukia, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Cachar, and Kamrup (M).

Lakhimpur district is the worst affected, with 165,319 people impacted, followed by Darrang with 147,143 people, Golaghat with 106,480 people, Dhemaji with 101,888 people, Tinsukia with 74,848 people, Biswanath with 73,074 people, Cachar with 69,567 people, Majuli with 66,167 people, Sonitpur with 65,061 people, and Morigaon with 48,452 people.

The floodwaters have submerged 42,476.18 hectares of crop area, affecting 2,208 villages under 84 revenue circles in the second wave of flooding.
