The devastating flood in Assam has resulted in the death of 31 wild animals in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP), according to the park’s field director, Sonali Ghosh. Among the deceased, 23 hog deer drowned, and 7 others died under care. However, the park authority and state forest department managed to rescue 82 wild animals.

Currently, 20 wild animals, including 15 hog deer, one rhino calf, one otter pup, one jungle cat, and two scops owls, are under treatment. After treatment, 31 wild animals were released back into the wild.

Although the flood situation in the national park has slightly improved, 95 out of 233 forest camps are still underwater. Traffic restrictions on National Highway 715 are in place to ensure the safety of wild animals during the flood.

Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora reported that the flood situation in Morigaon is grim, with three deaths in the district. The water level of the Brahmaputra river is receding, but the overall flood situation remains critical, affecting over 16.25 lakh people in 29 districts and claiming 46 lives. Rescue teams, including the NDRF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, administration, Indian army, and paramilitary forces, are actively engaged in rescue operations, having rescued 8377 people on Wednesday.
