Flooding in Bawana, Delhi: LG VK Saxena Takes Action After Munak Canal Breach
A breach in the Munak Canal’s sub-branch caused water to flood residential areas in Bawana, Delhi. Dewatering machines were deployed to clear the waterlogging.
Immediate Response
Delhi LG VK Saxena visited the affected areas and directed immediate repairs. The CEO of Delhi Jal Board assured that the breach would be fixed by Friday evening.
Relief Efforts
NDRF teams were sent to evacuate residents, and various departments were mobilized for relief efforts. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department deployed pumps to drain water, and additional boats were provided to NDRF. DUSIB was tasked with providing shelter and basic services, while the Disaster Management Cell coordinated relief measures.
Future Precautions
LG VK Saxena emphasized the need for better maintenance of the Munak Canal to prevent future breaches. He advised the Chief Secretary to coordinate with the Water Minister and Haryana authorities for timely repairs and maintenance.
