Five Indian Army personnel tragically lost their lives when their tank got stuck in the Shyok River in Eastern Ladakh on Friday night. The incident occurred due to a sudden increase in the water level, making rescue efforts unsuccessful.

Details of the Incident

On the night of June 28, while returning from a military training activity, an army tank got stuck in the Shyok River near Saser Brangsa, Eastern Ladakh. Despite rescue teams rushing to the location, the high current and water levels prevented the rescue mission from succeeding, resulting in the loss of the tank crew.

Official Statements

The Indian Army expressed deep regret over the loss of five brave personnel. General Manoj Pande and all ranks of the Indian Army extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, emphasizing their support during this difficult time.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his sadness over the incident, stating, “Deeply saddened at the loss of lives of five of our brave Indian Army soldiers in an unfortunate accident while getting across a river in Ladakh in a tank. We will never forget the exemplary service of our gallant soldiers to the nation.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also expressed their condolences, highlighting the nation’s collective grief and respect for the soldiers’ dedication and sacrifice.
