Five Arrested in Amritsar for Shooting US-Based NRI Sukhchain Singh

Amritsar, Punjab – Five people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of Sukhchain Singh, a US-based non-resident Indian (NRI), at his home in Amritsar. The incident occurred due to a rivalry between two families living in the US, who hired Indian shooters.

Details of the Incident

Amritsar Commissioner of Police Ranjit Singh Dhillon explained that the shooting was a result of a feud between two families. The attackers arrived on a bike and entered Singh’s home under the pretense of asking about his car’s registration papers. They fired three shots, two of which hit Singh, but fled when their weapon jammed.

Family’s Ordeal

Sukhchain Singh’s wife, Amandeep Kaur, recounted that the family, including their two children and an elderly mother, was present during the attack. The children pleaded with the attackers to spare their father, but the assailants only fled when their weapon malfunctioned.

Investigation and Arrests

Additional DCP Harpal Singh mentioned that the police are investigating financial transactions from the US to India related to the case. The family suspects the involvement of Singh’s ex-wife’s relatives, and an FIR has been filed against five of them.

Medical Update

Dr. Krishnan Srinivasan, who treated Singh, said he was admitted with severe bleeding but is now stable with injuries to his face and hand.

Commissioner Dhillon confirmed that Sukhchain Singh, who had recently returned to Punjab, is now out of danger after receiving medical treatment.
