First Session of 18th Lok Sabha Begins

Oath-Taking Ceremony
President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath to Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem Speaker. Mahtab will then call upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take his oath as a member of the House.
Upcoming Events
On June 26, the Lok Sabha Speaker will be elected. On June 27, President Droupadi Murmu will address the joint sitting of both houses of Parliament.
Expected Discussions
The session is expected to be contentious with the opposition likely to challenge the BJP-led NDA government on various issues, including the election of the Speaker, allegations of paper leaks in NEET-UG and UGC-NET, and the appointment of the pro-tem Speaker.
Election Results
This session follows the general elections where the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 293 seats and the INDIA bloc won 234, with the Congress holding 100 of them.
