In Bathinda, Punjab, a fire broke out on the railway tracks due to an oil leak from a goods train carrying crude oil to Jammu. The Punjab Police reported that the fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters, preventing any mishaps. No casualties were reported, and the train’s coaches were unharmed.

Response and Investigation

Senior Inspector Harjeevan Singh of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) stated that the patrolling team alerted the control room about the fire, leading to a swift response by fire tenders. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, which was confined to the tracks.

Other Railway Incidents

In a separate incident, the Bareilly-Varanasi Express was halted due to a wooden block on the tracks, causing a two-hour delay. An FIR was filed by Senior Section Engineer Ajay Kumar after the obstruction was cleared. Deputy Commissioner Omveer Singh reported that a tree branch was found on the tracks near Lucknow.

These incidents are part of a worrying trend of attempts to derail trains across India, with 24 such incidents reported since June 2023. The Indian Railway has noted 18 attempts since August, highlighting the need for increased railway safety measures.
