Fire Exchange in Udhampur and Search Operations in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir

A brief exchange of fire was reported at the Sang Police Picket in Basantgarh Tehsil of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir. SSP Udhampur Joginder Singh stated that an unknown person, believed to be a militant, fired at the police picket and then fled into the dark, dense forest.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified their search operations in the Doda district. This follows an encounter between militants and security forces in the Sezan forest area. The search is part of efforts to track down militants involved in an attack on an Army convoy on July 8.

On July 8, heavily armed terrorists ambushed an Army patrolling party in the Badnota area of Kathua, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers and injuries to eight others. The attack occurred on the Machedi-KindliMalhar road, about 150 km from Kathua town. Officials believe this is part of ongoing attempts by Pakistan to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir. The area is monitored by the BSF and falls under the jurisdiction of the 9 Corps of the Army, under the Western Command.
