Finn Allen Joins Perth Scorchers After Leaving New Zealand Contract

New Delhi [India], August 17: Star Kiwi cricketer Finn Allen has decided to leave his New Zealand national contract and will sign with the Perth Scorchers on a two-year deal, according to ESPNcricinfo. The Scorchers are expected to confirm Allen’s move in the coming days.

Allen has always shown outstanding performance in T20 cricket, boasting a strike rate of 168.60, the second highest for any batter with at least 3000 runs in the format, after West Indies’ Andre Russell. He has scored two centuries in T20Is and made a significant impact against Australia in the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, he had a disappointing T20 World Cup 2024, scoring only 35 runs in four innings.

Earlier, Devon Conway and Finn Allen turned down New Zealand central contracts. Conway has signed a ‘casual agreement’ like Kane Williamson, making himself available for international series except for the Sri Lanka white-ball matches, as he will participate in the SA20. Both Conway and Allen were included in the contract list last month and will now be replaced.

Conway thanked New Zealand Cricket (NZC) for their support, stating, “The decision to move away from a central playing contract isn’t one I’ve taken lightly, but I believe it is the best for me and my family at this present time. Playing for the Blackcaps is still the pinnacle for me and I’m hugely passionate about representing New Zealand and winning games of international cricket.”

Last month, Kiwi Test vice-captain Tom Latham criticized New Zealand Cricket, saying they need to be more flexible with the central contracting system. Conway and Allen join other players like Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, and Adam Milne in opting out of the central contract.
