Finance Ministry Helps Kerala Landslide Victims with Insurance Claims

The Finance Ministry has directed five public sector insurance companies to assist victims of the Kerala landslide in securing insurance claims. The companies are reaching out through various channels such as local newspapers, social media, company websites, and SMS to provide contact details for assistance in the districts of Wayanad, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Thrissur.

LIC has been asked to expedite claims under the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. The documentation required for processing claims has been relaxed to ensure speedy dispersal of the claim amount. The General Insurance Council will coordinate with insurers for faster claim processing and will host a portal for daily claim status updates.

The tragic landslide in Wayanad has claimed 308 lives, with 215 bodies and 143 body parts recovered. Rescue operations are ongoing, with 78 naval personnel deployed in the Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas of Wayanad.
