Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Visit to Uzbekistan
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will embark on a five-day official visit to Uzbekistan starting Tuesday. She will be accompanied by a delegation of officials from the Ministry of Finance.
AIIB Annual Meeting
During her visit, Sitharaman will attend the Ninth Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Samarkand on Wednesday and Thursday. As the Indian Governor to the AIIB, she will represent India, which is the second largest shareholder of the bank. The meeting will include delegations from around 80 countries and other international organizations, focusing on sustainable infrastructure development in Asia.
Bilateral Meetings
Sitharaman will hold important bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Uzbekistan, Qatar, China, and the AIIB President. She is also expected to meet Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan.
Bilateral Investment Treaty
During the visit, Sitharaman will sign a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) with the Uzbekistan Minister for Investment, Industry, and Trade. This treaty aims to promote extensive economic cooperation between India and Uzbekistan.
Other Activities
Sitharaman will participate in the India-Uzbekistan Business Forum, visit the Samarkand State University, and the Lal Bahadur Shastri Monument in Tashkent. She will also interact with the Indian diaspora in Uzbekistan.
