Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], September 10: The President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), Tayyab Ikram, recently met with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the Odisha Legislative Assembly. The meeting was attended by Hockey India (HI) President Dilip Tirkey, HI Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh, and Principal Secretary of the Sports and Youth Services Department, Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma.

The discussions focused on Odisha’s significant contributions to global hockey and plans for further development of the sport in the state. Key initiatives to expand infrastructure and host upcoming international tournaments were also on the agenda.

In a statement, Dilip Tirkey highlighted Odisha’s crucial role in the rise of hockey in India, calling the state government the ‘backbone’ of Hockey India. He noted that hockey has seen substantial growth in India since the Odisha government began its support.

In June, the Odisha government extended its sponsorship of Indian hockey for another three years, continuing until 2036. This partnership was solidified in a high-level meeting where strategies to elevate the sport were discussed.

After the meeting, Tirkey expressed gratitude to the Odisha government for its steadfast support. Bhola Nath Singh also extended heartfelt thanks to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Minister of State for Sports and Youth Services, Suryabanshi Suraj, for their invaluable support. He emphasized that with the Odisha government’s help, Indian hockey is poised for unprecedented success, aiming to make the year 2036 particularly memorable.
