Female Journalists Saritha Avula and Vijaya Reddy Attacked in Telangana
On August 23, female journalists Saritha Avula and Vijaya Reddy filed a complaint with the Telangana State Women Commission. They reported being attacked by Congress workers on August 22 in Kondareddypalle village, Vikarabad district, while covering a story on farmer loan waivers.
According to Saritha, the attackers took their phones and used abusive language. The journalists have also filed a complaint with the local police and plan to meet with the Director General of Police (DGP) to submit videos of the incident.
Saritha shared the incident on social media, stating, “Congress workers in CM Revanth Reddy’s hometown Kondareddypalle physically assaulted me and fellow journalist Vijaya Reddy while we were reporting on the implementation of the farm loan waiver. Our camera was smashed, phones were snatched, and we were pushed into mud.”
She urged Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi to recognize the troubling reality in Telangana and called for the Press Council of India to take serious note of the attack on women journalists.
