Farooq Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed his support for Rahul Gandhi’s call to restore the region’s statehood. Abdullah stated that the alliance between Congress and National Conference is a necessity, not just a compulsion. He criticized those who labeled them as Pakistanis and Khalistanis.
Rahul Gandhi, while addressing an election rally in Ramban, emphasized that the region’s statehood and rights have been unfairly taken away. He stated, ‘For the first time in the history of India, statehood has been snatched away. Union Territory was first made a state… A state has been abolished and the rights of the people have been snatched away.’
The upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be the first since the abrogation of Article 370. The elections will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes on October 8.
