Farmer Leader Rakesh Tikait Leads Tractor Rally in Madhya Pradesh for Higher Soybean Prices

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, who heads the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), staged a protest and held a tractor rally in Narmadapuram, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday. The rally aimed to demand an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of the soybean crop from Rs 4892 to Rs 6000 per quintal.

The tractor rally began at Tawa Colony in Seoni Malwa and concluded at Krishi Upaj Mandi in Seoni Malwa. During the demonstration, Tikait addressed the gathered farmers, urging them to keep their protest non-political. He said, “Keep your agitation strong and don’t let any political party reach your stage. Neither provide the stage nor the mike. If the protest will be non-political then nobody will have objection with the protest; neither the officer nor the government.”

Tikait emphasized that the protest is a long-term effort, similar to the 13-month Delhi farmer protest. He stated, “If farmers lose, then the countrymen will die of hunger. Don’t try to defeat the farmer; they will not lose; they are fighting to protect their land, crop, and breed.”

He also mentioned that the farmers have no issues with the police or administration and want their message to reach the state and central governments. A memorandum was submitted to the district administration to delay the hike in the soybean crop MSP.

Farmers across the state have been protesting for fair prices, claiming that the current MSP rate does not allow them to recover their costs.
