Family of Coal Miner Babul Baloch Seeks Justice After Abduction by Pakistan’s CTD
In Quetta, Balochistan, the family of Babul Baloch, a coal miner, is demanding justice after his forced abduction by Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). Babul’s brother, Naik Mohammad, expressed his grief at a press conference held at the Quetta Press Club. He explained that the residents of Killi Satakzai rely on coal mining for their livelihood. Babul was taken while returning home from his evening shift at the mine, where he was told to return the next day due to overstaffing.
Naik Mohammad criticized the rejection of an FIR at the local police station and the lack of investigation into Babul’s disappearance. He also refuted claims by pro-government social accounts that Babul was a member of the Baloch Liberation Army and was at a wedding in Mastung during the alleged arrest. Naik emphasized that Babul’s attendance at the mine was recorded on the day of his abduction.
Naik urged journalists to help bring attention to his brother’s case, hoping to bring him home. The incident follows reports of four men being killed in a “staged encounter” by the CTD, causing outrage among the Baloch community. There has been a noticeable increase in abductions, highlighting human rights violations against the Baloch people by Pakistani forces.
