Explosions and Gun Attacks in Pakistan: Multiple Casualties in North Waziristan and Balochistan
Islamabad, Pakistan – On August 26, a tragic explosion in Razmak bazaar, North Waziristan, resulted in the deaths of four people and injuries to ten others. The explosion occurred when explosives placed on a motorcycle detonated. The injured were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Earlier the same day, 38 people, including civilians and Levies personnel, were killed in various gun attack incidents in the Kalat, Musakhel, and Bolan districts of Balochistan. In Kalat district alone, eight people, including a police sub-inspector and four Levies personnel, lost their lives. The exchange of fire between police and armed men continued on Kalat’s national highway and city.
In another incident, Kalat Assistant Commissioner Aftab Ahmed and a Levies man were injured during a gunfire exchange at a checkpost. The injured officers were taken to a medical facility for treatment.
On August 24, a blast in Balochistan’s Pishin district killed two children and a woman, and injured 13 others, including two policemen. The incident occurred at the main market near Surkhab Chowk. The attacks have increased since the ceasefire agreement between Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the government ended in 2022.
According to Wakeel Sherani, the medical superintendent at Pishin Civil Hospital, 14 people were initially injured in the blast. Thirteen of the wounded were referred to the Quetta Trauma Centre, where a woman later succumbed to her injuries. Five injured people remain in serious condition, while two have minor injuries and three are still undergoing treatment. Two victims have been discharged from the trauma centre.
