Exciting Women’s Indian Open Golf Tournament Returns with Star Players
The 16th edition of India’s premier women’s golf tournament, the Women’s Indian Open, is set to take place from October 24 to 27 at the DLF Golf and Country Club. This year’s event will feature a star-studded line-up, including seven winners from the current Ladies European Tour (LET) season and other top international players.
With a prize pool of US$ 400,000, the tournament, founded in 2007, will also see strong competition from Indian players. In the 2023 edition, three Indian golfers finished in the top 10. Notable players who have confirmed their participation include former champions Christine Wolf (2019), Camille Chevalier (2017), and Caroline Hedwall (2011).
Sanjay Bhan, Executive Vice President of MotoCorp, expressed pride in the tournament’s growing global reputation and praised the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI) for promoting women’s golf in India. Kavita Singh, President of WGAI, highlighted the increasing talent and success of Indian female golfers, both domestically and internationally.
Alexandra Armas, CEO of Ladies European Tour, emphasized the importance of the Hero Women’s Indian Open on the LET schedule and praised the DLF Golf and Country Club for its top-quality venue. Prominent players from England, France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Singapore will also compete in the tournament.
In 2016, Aditi Ashok made history as the first Indian to win the Hero Women’s Indian Open. Diksha Dagar, one of only two Indians to have won on the Ladies European Tour, secured a third-place finish in 2023. The DLF Golf and Country Club has hosted fourteen of the tournament’s sixteen editions, with players from 11 different countries claiming the title. Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum holds the record for the most wins, with three victories.
