Exciting Elections in Jammu and Kashmir: Voters Turn Out in Large Numbers
The second phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir began on Wednesday, marking a significant event as elections are being held after a 10-year gap. People from various regions, including Jammu, Srinagar, and Ganderbal, were seen eagerly waiting in long queues to cast their votes.
At the Government Middle School in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Assembly constituency of Katra, voters lined up early. One voter from Jammu encouraged others to vote, emphasizing the emotional connection with Kashmir. Rajaji Chaudhary, a Kashmiri Pandit voter, highlighted the importance of voting as a democratic right and the need to choose candidates focused on development.
In a unique gesture, the first three voters at a polling station in Bagoo Rampora, Ganderbal, planted saplings after voting. The National Conference has fielded Omar Abdullah from Ganderbal, while the PDP has fielded Bashir Ahmad Mir.
Special pink polling stations, managed entirely by women, were set up in Poonch, Reasi, and Naushera districts to create a welcoming environment and encourage female participation. Local officials emphasized the importance of this women-centric approach.
Prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, urged voters to participate in large numbers. Voting began at 7 am, with over 25 lakh eligible voters deciding the fate of 239 candidates across 26 constituencies in six districts.
The third and final phase of polling will be held on October 1, with the counting of votes scheduled for October 8.
