EU Ambassador Herve Delphin Calls for Global Effort to Combat Online Terrorism in New Delhi
New Delhi [India], August 21: European Union Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, emphasized the urgent need for international collaboration to track and disable terrorist activities online. Speaking at the EU-India regional conference on ‘Combating Terrorist Content Online,’ Delphin discussed the role of digitalization, social media, and AI in increasing online terrorism.
Delphin stated, “Only with a joint and regional effort can we tackle the challenges posed by terrorism and exploration of the internet for extremist propaganda.” He highlighted that tracking and disabling terrorist activities online is a key battleground in the global fight against terrorism, requiring preventive action, tech expertise, and cooperation.
Delphin also mentioned the EU’s 2021 legislation to take down terrorist content online and the role of AI in combating terrorism. He said, “AI can be a powerful tool to combat terrorism online. We know that terrorists are also using AI. It is really how we can outsmart and be more prepared and effective in using AI.”
The event underscored the growing challenge posed by online extremism and the necessity for coordinated global efforts. Delphin expressed optimism about the future of India-EU relations, particularly in digital security, and stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of access while fighting terrorism online.
