England Wins First Test Against Sri Lanka
Star Performances from Joe Root, Chris Woakes, and Jamie Smith
England defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets in the first Test at Manchester on Friday, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
First Innings
Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite struggling at 113/7, skipper Dhananjaya de Silva (74) and Milan Rathnayake (72) helped push the team to 236/10. Chris Woakes (3/32) and Shoaib Bashir (3/55) were the top bowlers for England.

England, in their second innings, were at 70/3 but Joe Root’s calm 62* and contributions from Brook (32) and Smith (39*) led them to a five-wicket win. Jamie Smith was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his century and efforts behind the stumps.
