England Captain Ben Stokes Doubtful for Sri Lanka Test Series Due to Injury
England captain Ben Stokes is in doubt for the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka after suffering a suspected hamstring injury. The injury occurred during a domestic match for the Northern Superchargers against the Manchester Originals in The Hundred competition at Old Trafford.
Stokes was attempting a quick single when he pulled up sore and had to leave the field. He later appeared on crutches but returned to watch his team secure a narrow seven-wicket victory.
Stokes is scheduled to have scans on Monday to determine the extent of the injury. Teammate Harry Brook mentioned, “It doesn’t look great unfortunately but I think he’ll be getting a scan tomorrow and see how he is.”
If Stokes is ruled out, vice-captain Ollie Pope may lead the team. England is targeting the series to collect more points for the ICC World Test Championship final. They recently swept the West Indies 3-0 to move up to sixth place in the standings.
Following the series against Sri Lanka, England will travel to Pakistan in October for a three-match series.
