Engineer Rashid Calls for Unity Among Political Parties in Jammu and Kashmir
In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, Awami Ittehad Party Chief and Baramulla MP, Engineer Rashid, has called on the INDIA bloc, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and other parties to unite and refrain from forming a government until statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir. Rashid emphasized that his party is willing to support this cause.
He stated, “Any government formed will be a Union territory government with limited rights. The regional parties, including the Gupkar alliance, have not achieved much in the past five years. I urge all parties to unite and pressure the Union government for statehood restoration.” Rashid also advocated for the reinstatement of the historic ‘Darbar Move’ to strengthen the bond between the regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
Security Measures and Election Updates
Security has been heightened in the Union Territory ahead of the counting day on October 8. Udhampur Senior Superintendent of Police, Amod Ashok Nagpure, announced a three-tier security system at counting venues. The region voted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. Exit polls suggest a slight advantage for the National Conference-Congress alliance, with the BJP closely following.
