Election Commission Seeks Responses from Political Leaders
The Election Commission of India has requested responses from BJP President JP Nadda and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge regarding complaints of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations during the assembly polls in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
Complaints Filed
The BJP filed a complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of making false claims about the BJP’s intentions towards the Constitution. Meanwhile, Congress lodged a complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging divisive and false speeches.
Details of the Complaints
Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stated that Rahul Gandhi falsely accused the BJP of wanting to destroy the Constitution. On the other hand, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused Modi and Shah of making speeches that were divisive and malicious, targeting SC, ST, and OBC communities.
Election Commission’s Directive
The Election Commission has asked both party leaders to submit their responses by 1 PM on November 18, 2024. The Commission reminded them of the importance of maintaining public decorum and adhering to the MCC during election campaigns.

The first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections has concluded, with voting in 43 out of 81 seats. The remaining elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra are scheduled for November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
