Election Commission of India Visits Srinagar to Prepare for Upcoming Assembly Polls

A team from the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, visited Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, to review preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in the Union Territory.

The delegation included Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. They will meet with various stakeholders, including officials and leaders of different political parties in the region.

On June 21, the ECI began preparations for the forthcoming State Assembly Elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand by updating the electoral rolls. The terms of the existing Legislative Assemblies in these states will end on November 3, November 26, and January 5, 2025, respectively.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar highlighted the significant participation of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the recent Lok Sabha elections, calling it hopeful and inspiring. He emphasized the importance of peaceful and united participation in democracy.

J&K BJP Chief Spokesperson Sunil Sethi expressed the party’s readiness for the elections and mentioned concerns regarding security and the phasing of the elections. BJP leader Rafiq Wani also stated that the party is fully prepared and hopeful for high voter turnout, similar to the Lok Sabha elections.
