Election Commission Delays Rural Housing Survey in West Bengal

The Election Commission of India has instructed the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer to postpone the house-to-house survey under the Rural Housing Scheme in six districts. This decision is due to the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming bye-elections.

Districts Affected

The survey is deferred in Sitai, Madarihat, Naihati, Haroa, Medinipur, and Taldangra assembly constituencies. The postponement will last until the completion of the polls.

Official Statement

In a letter dated October 22, the Election Commission stated that surveys can proceed in West Bengal except in areas where the Model Code of Conduct is in effect from October 15, 2024. The letter emphasized that surveys in the specified areas should wait until after the elections.

Bye-elections for the six assembly seats, including Naihati, Haroa, Medinipur, Taldangra, Sitai (SC), and Madarihat (ST), are scheduled for November 13.
