Election Commission Bans Exit Polls for Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir Elections
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notification prohibiting the publication of exit polls during the upcoming legislative assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir. The ban will be in effect from 7 am on September 18 to 6:30 pm on October 5.
According to the ECI’s notification dated September 3, no exit polls can be published or publicized by any means, including print and electronic media, during this period. Additionally, the display of any election matter, including results of opinion polls or other surveys, will be prohibited in electronic media during the 48 hours leading up to the conclusion of the poll.
Haryana’s 90-member legislative assembly will hold its elections on October 5, with the last date for filing nominations being September 12. Jammu & Kashmir, which has 90 assembly constituencies, will conduct its elections in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. This will be the first election in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.
The counting of votes for both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir will take place on October 8, following a revision of the polling date for Haryana from October 1 to October 5 by the ECI on August 31.
