Election Commission Announces Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir

The Election Commission has issued a notification for the first phase of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, starting the nomination process. Voting for 24 seats will take place on September 18. The last date for filing nominations is August 27, with scrutiny on August 28 and withdrawal of candidature by August 30.

The seats in the first phase include Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, D H Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Anantnag, Srigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangus-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Padder-Nagseni, Bhadarwah, Doda, Doda West, Ramban, and Banihal.

The election schedule was announced on August 16, with polling in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. A total of 90 assembly constituencies will be contested. The last assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir was in 2014.

Additionally, assembly polls in Haryana will be held on October 1, with votes for both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana counted on October 4.
