Paris 2024 Olympics: Eiffel Tower Shines with Olympic Rings
The Eiffel Tower in Paris is now decorated with the iconic Olympic rings as the Paris 2024 Olympics officially begin. The opening ceremony will be unique, taking place along the Seine River instead of inside a stadium. This event will start at 11:00 PM IST and will be live-streamed in India.
Opening Ceremony Details
Over 10,000 athletes will participate in a floating parade along the Seine, passing famous landmarks like Notre Dame and Pont Neuf. The parade will start from Austerlitz Bridge and end at the Trocadero. The ceremony, directed by French theatre director Thomas Jolly, is expected to last more than three hours.
Indian Contingent
India’s flag-bearers, PV Sindhu and Achanta Sharath Kamal, will lead the Indian team. India aims to surpass its previous best of seven medals from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. A total of 112 athletes will compete in 69 events across 16 sports, with five reserve athletes. The Indian men will wear traditional kurta bundi sets, and the women will wear sarees with ikat-inspired prints and Banarasi brocade.
Archery Achievements
India’s archery teams have already made a mark. The men’s team, consisting of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, secured third place in the Men’s Archery Ranking Round, qualifying for the quarter-finals. The women’s team, featuring Bhajan Kaur, Deepika Kumari, and Ankita Bhakat, also qualified for the quarter-finals by finishing fourth in their ranking round.
