East Turkistan Leader Salih Hudayar Urges NATO to Stand Against Chinese Actions in Xinjiang

Washington, DC [US], July 11: Representatives of the East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE) have called on NATO nations to address the actions of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) against the Uyghur community in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR). This appeal was made during the NATO Summit held in Washington from July 9 to July 11.

Salih Hudayar, the Foreign Affairs and Security Minister of ETGE, posted on ‘X’ urging NATO to recognize and confront Chinese imperialism. He stated, “As the NATO Summit convenes, we urge NATO to recognize and confront Chinese imperialism. We call on NATO to stand with East Turkistan in our fight for independence and justice.”

Hudayar emphasized the need for NATO to take decisive actions against Chinese expansionism and the ongoing Uyghur genocide. In a video message, he highlighted NATO’s 75-year history of standing against tyranny and oppression and called for attention to the urgent threat posed by Chinese state ambitions.

Hudayar recounted the history of East Turkistan, noting that on December 22, 1949, the independent East Turkestan Republic was forcibly overthrown by the PRC. Since then, the region has faced systematic colonization, genocide, and crimes against humanity. Millions of Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and other Turkic peoples have been detained in concentration camps and prisons, subjected to forced labor, and efforts to erase their culture and existence.

He also pointed out China’s broader strategy of imperialism, including aggressive territorial claims, economic coercion through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and cyber espionage. Hudayar stressed that these actions threaten global security and undermine the international rules-based order.

Hudayar concluded by calling the situation a global fight for independence, sovereignty, democracy, and human rights. He warned that allowing China’s unchecked aggression to continue risks undermining the principles upon which NATO was founded.
