The East Delhi Riders made history by winning the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL) T20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. A late assault from Mayank Rawat, who hit seven fours and six sixes, powered the East Delhi Riders to 183/5. Three-wicket hauls from Simarjeet Singh and Raunak Waghela ensured a thrilling 3-run victory against the South Delhi Superstarz.

Match Highlights

The South Delhi Superstarz struggled early in their run chase. Despite maintaining their run rate, they lost key players Priyansh Arya and Ayush Badoni to Bhagwan Singh and Simarjeet Singh, respectively. Impact player Kunwar Bidhuri was caught and bowled by Mayank Rawat, leaving them at 57/3 after the powerplay.

Sumit Mathur and Tejaswi Dahiya built a 22-run partnership before Mathur was dismissed. Dahiya completed a half-century, but teammates Mayank Gupta and Dhruv Singh were dismissed cheaply. Vision Panchal’s quick 25 runs were cut short by Raunak Waghela, leaving South Delhi Superstarz at 109/7 in 13.5 overs.

East Delhi Riders’ Innings

Choosing to bat first, East Delhi Riders lost both openers in the powerplay. Anuj Rawat was dismissed by Raghav Singh, and Sujal Singh was removed by Kuldip Yadav, leaving them at 27/2 in 4.5 overs. Himmat Singh and Hardik Sharma briefly steadied the innings with a 24-run partnership before both were dismissed before the 10-over mark.

Mayank Rawat ramped up the intensity, scoring an unbeaten 78 off 39 balls. He combined with Kavya Gupta for a 47-run partnership. Gupta was dismissed by Kuldip Yadav, leaving East Delhi Riders at 116/5 in 15.4 overs. Rawat, supported by Harsh Tyagi, smashed five sixes in the final over to propel East Delhi Riders to 183/5 in 20 overs.
