EAM S Jaishankar Meets Akie Abe, Remembers Shinzo Abe’s Vision for India-Japan Friendship
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with Akie Abe, the wife of the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, on Friday. Jaishankar reminisced about Shinzo Abe’s dedication to fostering a strong friendship between India and Japan. He stated that Abe’s strategic vision will continue to guide the relationship between the two nations.
Shinzo Abe, who served as Japan’s Prime Minister from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020, was tragically shot during an election campaign speech in Nara on July 8, 2022. He passed away later that day. Abe was known for his significant contributions to Japan’s political landscape and his efforts to strengthen ties with India. He was honored with India’s highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, in 2021.
Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw is currently visiting Japan. He met with Japan’s Minister for Digital Transformation, Taro Kono, to discuss enhancing digital cooperation between the two countries. Vaishnaw also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Park in Tokyo and held discussions with Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Tetsuo Saito, on improving railway cooperation and cultural ties. Additionally, he met with Masafumi Mori, Special Advisor to Japan’s Prime Minister, to discuss the future of the India-Japan strategic partnership.
