EAM Jaishankar Visits Islamabad for SCO Meeting
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, to attend the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The event is hosted by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is the current chair of the Council. Jaishankar was warmly welcomed at Nur Khan Airbase by Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, Director General for South Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Children in traditional attire presented flowers to the guests, and a red carpet was rolled out to emphasize the importance of the event.
The two-day meeting, starting on October 16, 2024, will focus on the trade and economic agenda of the SCO. Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation, highlighting India’s active engagement in the SCO’s various initiatives. The meeting is held annually and is the second highest forum within the SCO.
