EAM Jaishankar Meets New Zealand Deputy PM Winston Peters in Laos

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of New Zealand, Winston Peters, on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings in Vientiane, Laos. Jaishankar expressed his enjoyment in meeting Peters and mentioned that they discussed topics such as education, agriculture technology, Pacific Islands, and cricket.

Earlier, on July 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a congratulatory phone call from New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on his third election victory. During their conversation, both leaders reiterated their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in various areas, including trade, economic cooperation, animal husbandry, pharmaceuticals, education, and space. Prime Minister Modi thanked Luxon for looking after the Indian community in New Zealand, and Luxon assured continued efforts towards their security and well-being.

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Vientiane, Laos, focused on reviewing and discussing the progress of various activities. Laos, holding the chairmanship of ASEAN this year, has been working under the theme of ‘ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience.’
