EAM Jaishankar Meets Leaders from South Korea, EU, Singapore, and More at ASEAN in Laos
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar held several important meetings on the sidelines of ASEAN events in Vientiane, Laos. He met with his counterparts from South Korea, the European Union, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Russia.
Meeting with South Korea
Jaishankar met Cho Tae-yul, the Foreign Minister of South Korea, to discuss their Special Strategic Partnership and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Meeting with the European Union
He also met Josep Borrell Fontelles, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. They discussed enhancing India-EU ties in trade, clean energy, and advanced technologies.
Meeting with Singapore
Jaishankar had a conversation with Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, thanking Singapore for its role in ASEAN-India relations and discussing a new agenda for bilateral ties.
Meeting with Indonesia
He congratulated Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi for her contributions to India-Indonesia and India-ASEAN relations.
Meeting with Malaysia
Jaishankar discussed ongoing initiatives with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Haji Hasan, aiming to enhance their bilateral relationship.
Meeting with Russia
Earlier, Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, sharing a laugh and discussing various issues.
ASEAN Meeting Highlights
Jaishankar emphasized the importance of ASEAN in India’s Act East policy and welcomed Timor-Leste as an observer. He also launched a logo celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations with Brunei.
The ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference with India reaffirmed the commitment to enhance the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming years.
