During his visit, Jaishankar highlighted Australia’s role in delivering humanitarian aid to Papua New Guinea, emphasizing the importance of disaster relief collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region. He noted that Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) is a key element of QUAD initiatives, showcasing a commitment to regional cooperation.
The new consulate aims to serve the growing Indian community in Queensland, where many Indian students are studying. Jaishankar praised the Indian diaspora as a “living bridge” between the two nations, contributing to Australia’s multicultural society.
Jaishankar’s visit also included discussions on the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), which he believes will create significant trade opportunities for both countries. He assured that the consulate would support cultural activities and preserve cultural heritage for the Indian community in Queensland.
Concluding his visit, Jaishankar met with Queensland Governor Jeannette Young to discuss enhancing economic and trade cooperation. He also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, reinforcing Gandhi’s global message of peace and harmony.
