EAM Jaishankar and PM Modi Celebrate 10th International Day of Yoga with Diplomats

10th International Day of Yoga Celebrated by EAM Jaishankar and PM Modi

On June 21, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga by performing yoga with diplomats in New Delhi. He emphasized that yoga has been a great bonding point for different cultures and has significantly contributed to building international relations.

Jaishankar expressed his happiness, saying, ‘Today, I was so happy to see so many diplomats, ambassadors, and colleagues from the foreign ministry, join us at the Yoga session.’ He also highlighted the global enthusiasm and awareness about yoga, stating, ‘We have come a long way in the last 10 years. We can see how much wellness and happiness Yoga has brought to the world.’

This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ emphasizes yoga’s vital role in fostering both individual well-being and societal harmony. People from across the world, including Nepal, the US, and Japan, are celebrating by practicing yoga. Diplomatic missions and Indian embassies are organizing Yoga sessions to raise awareness about its importance and benefits.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated everyone on the occasion and noted the emergence of a new Yoga economy over the past decade. PM Modi performed Yoga at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.

In December 2014, the United Nations unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by India to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on June 21, the Summer Solstice. The proposal was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly. Since 2015, the International Day of Yoga has been celebrated globally, enhancing awareness about the multifaceted benefits of Yoga.
