DYFI Protests NEET Paper Leak in Ernakulam

The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) held a protest in Ernakulam, Kerala, on Tuesday, alleging that the central government had betrayed students over the NEET issue. Protesters broke through barricades, and police used water cannons to disperse the crowd. Later, a peaceful march was allowed.

The protest was organized by the DYFI Ernakulam district committee against the NEET paper leak. State committee members Advocate Nikhil Babu, Adv. Bibin Varghese, KV Kiranraj, and Manisha Radhakrishnan led the march.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is facing controversy over alleged irregularities in the NEET and UGC NET exams. The NEET-UG 2024, held on May 5, saw around 24 lakh candidates appear across 4,750 centers. Due to these irregularities, the central government postponed several exams, including NEET PG.

The NTA has announced new dates for the UGC-NET June 2024 exams, Joint CSIR UGC NET exams, and NCET 2024 exams. The UGC NET June 2024 exams will be conducted between August 21 and September 4, the Joint CSIR UGC NET from July 25 to July 27, and the NCET on July 10.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear pleas on July 8 regarding the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak. The court had earlier sought a response from the NTA on these allegations, emphasizing the need to maintain the exam’s sanctity. The NTA had canceled grace marks awarded to 1,563 candidates and offered a retest on June 23, which 813 students attended.

Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court seeking to recall NEET-UG 2024 results and conduct a fresh examination due to alleged malpractices. However, the court refused to stay the NEET-UG 2024 counseling.
