The grand festival of Durga Puja, celebrated with great enthusiasm across India, concluded with the immersion of goddess Durga’s idols. In Kolkata, the idols were immersed at Babughat, while in Hyderabad, the immersion took place in Hussain Sagar Lake. Similar processions were seen in Srinagar and Siliguri, where the idols were immersed at Lal Mohan Moulik Niranjan ghat.

Traditions and Celebrations

Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy highlighted the tradition of Alai Balai, celebrated for 18 years, where people visit their hometowns to meet relatives and seek blessings. He extended wishes for a Happy Vijayadashami.

In Siliguri, the ‘Sindur Khela’ ritual was performed by married Bengali Hindu women on the final day of Durga Puja. This ritual, known as the ‘vermillion game’, involves applying sindoor on the goddess and each other, symbolizing the power of womanhood and praying for long, happy marriages.
