Dunith Wellalage Wins ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August
Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage was named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August after his outstanding performance against India. The 21-year-old outperformed South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj and West Indies’ Jayden Seales to clinch the award.
Wellalage’s all-round display was crucial in helping Sri Lanka win their first bilateral ODI series against India since 1997. He scored 108 runs and took seven wickets in the three ODIs. His notable achievements included a career-best 67* and a five-wicket haul in the third ODI.
In the first ODI, Wellalage scored 67* and took the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, leading to a thrilling tie.
