Dubai’s New Eco-Friendly Buses: A Step Towards a Greener Future
Dubai is making big changes to its public transport system to make it better for everyone. This plan is led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and supervised by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.
New Buses for a Better Future
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has decided to buy 636 new buses. These buses will be delivered in 2024 and 2025. Among them, 40 will be electric, making them the first and largest of their kind in the UAE. The new buses will help reduce pollution because they meet European standards for low carbon emissions.
Why New Buses?
Mattar Al Tayer, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said that these new buses are part of a bigger plan to make Dubai’s public transport one of the best in the world. The goal is to make public transport the first choice for people in Dubai and to increase the number of public transport journeys to 25% by 2030.
Special Features
The new buses will have many cool features like:
- Driver Behaviour Monitoring System to make sure drivers are safe.
- Automated Passenger Counting system to keep track of how many people are on the bus.
- Comfortable seating and high safety standards.
- Wi-Fi service and mobile phone charging points.
- Special seating for children and bike racks.
Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency, said that these buses will also have low floors to make it easy for everyone to get on and off, including people with disabilities.
Future Goals
Dubai aims to have all its public transport buses be electric or hydrogen-powered by 2050. This is part of a bigger plan to make Dubai one of the world’s largest urban economies and to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
