Dubai’s Cybersecurity Efforts Praised by World Economic Forum
The World Economic Forum (WEF) has highlighted the significant contributions of the Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC) in its strategic Cybersecurity Talent Framework report. The DESC has launched important initiatives like the Dubai Cyber Innovation Park, aimed at empowering the next generation of cybersecurity experts.
The report also praised DESC’s Cyber Security Competency Framework (Qudraat), which maps all cybersecurity employees in Dubai to the framework, linking their assessment and evaluation with training and development. This recognition comes as DESC continues to collaborate with key global partners, including the WEF, to support the Cybersecurity Talent Framework, addressing the global shortage of cybersecurity professionals estimated at 4 million.
The WEF expressed gratitude to the DESC team, including Bushra AlBlooshi, Ayesha Mohammad AlMarzooqi, Maitha Khalid Al Muhairi, Shaikha Essa Al Mheiri, Zeina Naser, and Moaza Majed Al Flasi, for their significant efforts and expertise in preparing and launching the framework. Their contributions demonstrated high levels of competence and commitment.
Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director-General of Digital Dubai, commented on these efforts, stating that DESC’s initiatives are part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance Dubai’s status as a hub for innovation and creativity, especially in sectors vital to the country’s economic development. He emphasized the importance of international partnerships in enhancing cybersecurity excellence and stability.
Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, Head of Cyber Security of Dubai, highlighted that cybersecurity is fundamental to digital transformation and providing a reliable infrastructure. He noted DESC’s dedication to nurturing young talents and imparting them with the necessary technological skills and knowledge.
The Cybersecurity Talent Framework aims to attract cybersecurity talent by improving the understanding of the profession, removing barriers to entry, and enhancing workforce diversity. It also calls for rethinking hiring practices to address challenges such as unrealistic job requirements and misalignment between hiring managers and HR departments.
Bushra Al Blooshi, Director of the Cybersecurity Governance Risk Management Department at DESC, stated that DESC is a major player in global efforts to advance cybersecurity standards. She highlighted the critical global shortage of cybersecurity professionals and emphasized the importance of their problem-solving abilities and expertise in digital technology for companies across all sectors.
