Dr. Vikas Divyakirti Speaks on Delhi Coaching Institutes’ Safety Issues

Dr. Vikas Divyakirti, the founder and Managing Director of Drishti IAS, has raised concerns about the safety of coaching institutes in Delhi. This comes after the tragic deaths of three IAS aspirants in Old Rajinder Nagar due to drowning.

Challenges with Safety Certificates

Dr. Divyakirti explained that there are over 1000 coaching institutes in Delhi, but none have a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department. The fire department requires a commercial certificate, while the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) demands an educational certificate. This discrepancy has made it difficult for institutes to comply with safety regulations.

Meeting with Delhi Officials

In a recent meeting with the Delhi Lieutenant Governor, top officials from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), MCD, and the fire department discussed the issue. The fire department assured that a system would be created to streamline the certification process.

Basement Coaching Centers

Following the incident, the MCD has sealed several basement coaching centers. Dr. Divyakirti agrees that basements should not be used for coaching centers, citing safety concerns. He assured that Drishti IAS would not operate in basements in the future.

Emotional Impact

Dr. Divyakirti also addressed the emotional turmoil faced by students and the need for better safety measures. He acknowledged the students’ valid concerns and emphasized the importance of ensuring their safety.
