Dr Rajeev Bhagat Announced as BJP Candidate for Bishnah Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir

Dr Rajeev Bhagat has been announced as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Bishnah Assembly constituency in Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president JP Nadda, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the opportunity.

Dr Bhagat encouraged the youth to focus on sports and promised to support them in every way possible. He also expressed confidence in the BJP’s victory in the upcoming assembly elections.

Earlier, BJP National Spokesperson RP Singh mentioned that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has changed, with everyone now hoisting the national flag at their homes. He recalled how the Omar Abdullah-led government had previously stopped BJP leaders from hoisting the flag at Lal Chowk in 2011. Singh also criticized National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah for his remarks on the execution of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes on October 8. There are 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, with seven seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and nine seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs). The National Conference and the Congress have formed a pre-poll alliance ahead of the elections.

According to the Election Commission of India, Jammu and Kashmir has 88.06 lakh eligible voters. These are the first assembly elections to be held in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. In the previous assembly elections, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won 28 seats, the BJP secured 25, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) won 15, and the Congress won 12.
