Dr. BN Gangadhar Becomes New Chairperson of National Medical Commission

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has made several key appointments to the National Medical Commission (NMC) and its Autonomous Boards. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. BN Gangadhar, previously the president of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board, is now the chairperson of the NMC. These appointments are for a period of 4 years, or until the appointee reaches the age of 70, whichever comes first.

Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram, has been appointed as the President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board. Dr. Anil D’Cruz, Director of Oncology at Apollo Hospital in Mumbai, is now a whole-time member of the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board. Additionally, Dr. Rajendra Achyut Badwe, Professor Emeritus at Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai, has been appointed as a part-time member of the Under-Graduate Medical Education Board for a period of 2 years, or until he reaches the age of 70.

The NMC was established by the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, which came into effect on September 25, 2020.
