New Delhi, India, July 1: Dr. Adish C Aggarwala, the outgoing President of the Supreme Court Bar Association and Chairman of the All India Bar Association, has praised the implementation of three new criminal laws in India. He believes these laws will significantly modernize the criminal justice delivery system.

Dr. Aggarwala highlighted that one of the key changes is the introduction of specific timelines for conducting trials and delivering verdicts. He saluted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for decolonizing British-era criminal laws. According to Dr. Aggarwala, these new Acts will strengthen the response to crimes and enhance public faith in the law enforcement and criminal justice system of India.

He explained that after hearing arguments, judges are required to give a judgment within 30 days, extendable to 45 days with written reasons. Every stage of court proceedings now has a time limit.

The three new criminal laws cover substantive crime, procedure, and evidence, aiming to digitize various aspects of criminal procedure. From the initial registration of a First Information Report (FIR) to the final delivery of judgment, every stage of a criminal investigation will be recorded digitally under these new Acts.
