Washington, DC [US], August 4: Doug Emhoff, the husband of US Vice President Kamala Harris, has admitted to having an extramarital affair during his first marriage, according to CBS News. The affair occurred several years before he met and married Kamala Harris.
Emhoff had a relationship with a teacher at his children’s school, which resulted in the teacher becoming pregnant in 2009. However, the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. At the time, Emhoff was married to his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff, but the couple had already separated.
In a statement, Emhoff said, “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.”
Kerstin Emhoff also commented, saying, “Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago. He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built together.”
Doug Emhoff and Kamala Harris met in 2013 and married in 2014. Emhoff has two adult children, Ella and Cole, from his first marriage. Kamala Harris has a close relationship with Emhoff’s children, who call her “Mamala.”
