Donald Trump Returns to Campaign Trail After Assassination Attempt in Michigan Rally
Former US President Donald Trump addressed a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, marking his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt. Trump, who was shot in the ear during a rally in Pennsylvania, spoke about his commitment to democracy, saying, “I took a bullet for democracy.” He criticized Democrats for spreading misinformation and disinformation, and denied any support for Project 2025, a conservative policy platform.
Trump wore a smaller bandage on his right ear, different from the larger one he wore at the Republican National Convention. The rally saw many supporters wearing shirts with Trump’s image and the word “fight.” Merchandise tables outside the venue sold similar shirts to attendees.
Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance also spoke at the rally, criticizing US Vice President Kamala Harris. Vance defended his loyalty to the country, highlighting his service in the United States Marine Corps and his business achievements. He dismissed Harris’s claims that he would be a “rubber stamp” for Trump’s agenda.
Vance’s remarks came after Harris criticized him for his stance on the 2020 election results, comparing him to former Vice President Mike Pence. Vance received a warm welcome from the crowd in Michigan.
