Donald Trump Criticizes Kamala Harris’ Heritage Amid Presidential Race

Former US President Donald Trump launched a strong personal attack on Vice President Kamala Harris, claiming she ‘turned Black’ after years of promoting her Indian heritage. Trump made these comments at a gathering of black journalists in Chicago.

Trump questioned Harris’ heritage, saying, ‘She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn black, and now she wants to be known as black.’

Kamala Harris, whose mother is Indian and father is Jamaican, was born in Oakland, California. She attended Howard University, a historically black university, and is the first female, first Black, and first Asian American vice president. If she wins the upcoming election, she will become the first woman president of the United States.

President Joe Biden recently stepped down from the presidential race, nominating Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate. Harris quickly gained support and raised over USD 200 million in her first week as a candidate.

The White House condemned Trump’s comments, with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre calling them ‘insulting.’ She stated, ‘No one has any right to tell someone who they are or how they identify. Only Kamala Harris can speak to her experience.’
