Dog Beaten and Hanged in Pune: Mother and Son Booked for Cruelty

A shocking incident of animal cruelty has emerged from Pune, Maharashtra, where a dog was beaten and hanged to death by its owners. The police have charged a woman and her son in connection with this crime, which occurred in the Pirangut area of Mulshi tehsil.

Animal Activist Takes Action

Padmini Stump, an animal activist who runs a dog shelter, reported the incident to the Pune rural police. She was informed by Farheen Sheikh, who received a call about the dog being hanged. The owners, a mother and son, allegedly wanted to get rid of the dog and later sent a photo and video of the deceased animal.

Possible Motives

Stump speculated that the owners might have acted because they moved to a new society or suspected the dog had rabies, as suggested by a vet. The dog had been with them for eight years. Despite the cruelty, the owners showed no remorse when the dog’s body was retrieved.

Legal Action and Appeal

An FIR has been filed under BNS Section 325 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Stump emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership, urging people not to adopt pets if they cannot care for them.
